The vampires and the true werewolves, the Children of the Moon, were not always enemies. They were once at peace, two sides of the same coin. But as the Volturi rose to power, and Caius developed his fear of the werewolves, the werewolf genocide began. Many vampires, fearful or respectful of their new leaders, came to view the werewolves as enemies instead of equals. Any who spoke out against the killings were destroyed by the Volturi. Eventually, the animosity that vampires held towards werewolves became ingrained.
But not all the werewolves are dead. Though nearly extinct in Europe and Asia, populations still exist in the rest of the world. And among them are two the Volturi would definitely consider a threat. A pair of hybrids, twin children of a vampire father and werewolf mother, Jack and Clara Reed. The male is especially dangerous to them, possessing a most unusual talent-he can transform a vampire into a werewolf, and vice versa. Both of aware of the peace that once existed between the Children of the Moon and the vampires, and seek to recreate the balance that once existed-by dethroning the Volturi.
Already, the two hybrids have gained the support of the remnants of the Romanian Coven, and have now traveled to Forks, seeking to gain the support of the Cullens as well, and-if possible-the newly forming Shapeshifter pack of La Push. But they aren't the only ones new to Forks-Bella Swan has recently come to Forks, and has found herself falling for Edward Cullen. But with a war brewing, and the supernatural world he lives in becoming divided, will it be safe for them to be together?
